Steampunk Games & Game Art

Wednesday, July 21, 2010 13:27

For today’s entry, with Steampunk week taking off and providing mechanical and steampowered inspiration to anyone who finds themselves here, we will be looking at something a bit different. Steampunk is becoming more and more popular, but it’s nothing new. We’ll be taking a look at some steampunk inspired computer games from the late 80′s to present day! (And even some steampunk takes on classics!). Hmm… where to start.

  1. Great list! But if you wanna be picky, Fallout and Bioshock are technically dieselpunk, because they make use of that art deco style. Steampunk is more of an Edwardian/Victorian thing.

While the art is certainly pretty, i don’t really see how Torchlight fits … ?

Another game you may have included is War of the Worlds, a real-time strategy game featuring the Jeff Wayne concept album as its soundtrack:

Another good pick is Dark Cloud 2, although any time the Japanese try to do this Steampunk thing, they tend to wreck it with anime characters (that Neo Steam game, with all its furries, is abysmal)
